- The broccoli should be carefully cut into the bite-size pieces. The stalks can be eaten, but it is tougher then the florets, therefore, for them to be cooked evenly in the same amount of time, it should be cut smaller. You should remove some really woody pieces for the ease of eating.
- All the cut broccoli then should be put in a bowl, which is microwave safe and filled with enough water. It is recommended to use ceramic bowl to avoid and sustains being released during the cooking process. The proper amount of water to be added is two to three tablespoons for one pound of broccoli.
- The bowl then should be covered tightly. You should not use plastic wrap (the same reason as we choose to use a ceramic bowl). When microwave foods, you should always choose stoneware or ceramic plate as they are considerably safer.
- You should set your microwave at HIGH and set the time for three to four minutes – this is all about your microwave’s strength to adjust the right setting. The final result should bring you slightly crispy but yet still tender enough broccoli. You can test the cooking by trying to leave it for two and a half minutes first, you can check, if it has not reached the state that you desire, you can always recover it and have it stay longer in the microwave until it is cooked properly.
- One thing to be very careful when cooking with a microwave is when you remove the food from it. The item after removed is normally very hot, if not handled with precaution; it can easily cause accidents and burns. After the vegetable is cooked, you should very carefully remove the lid as the hot steam still remains inside. To make the steamed broccoli tastes better, you can ass some soy sauce or a small piece of butter before you start steaming. Salt and pepper might be added after the broccoli is cooked. However, it is not a bad idea to enjoy the original taste of the vegetable since it is the healthier way to enjoy it as well.
